On the Road to Recovery.

I finally got in to see the doctor today. I have acute bronchitis. Yeah, woohoo. I have anti biotics, Singulair to help me breathe, and a decongestant of some sort. I am doing the 3 day anti biotic, so I expect to feel worlds better tomorrow!

While I was there I had my doc take a look at a patch of dry skin on my shoulder. It has been there for months now and does not go away no matter what I put on it. It got kind of red and yukky this week. She called it something fancy and said it was a pre-cancerous lesion, so she did the cryo thing on it. I now have a big blister there that will dry up and go away. At least it was not on my forehead or something like that, how cute would that be? Ahhh, I have an inkling that I will have many of these removed in my later years. Redhead, fair skin, freckles, many sunburns. Yep - I will keep that cryo stuff busy.

Oh my Lord! and I mean that in the nicest way.

Oh my! We have all been horrified at the video of young muslim males who spend most of their waking moments chanting the Koran and rocking back and forth. We have uttered the words horrific and brainwashing many times when we saw these images.

Hey, you do not have to look beyond our borders for this type of "training". Just cast your eyes towards North Dakota, ya! This is some very scary stuff ya'll.

Watch MSNBC tonight at 9pm to see the story. Disturbing in ways I cannot even begin to describe.

Maya Lu Lu

We call Maya a number of things and she answers to all of them. Maya Lu Lu, Lu Lu McGoo, Moo Moo, Woo Woo... she doesn't care what you call her as long as you are reaping attention on her. We are ate up with loving this doggie.
manner.

Isn't it amazing how much laughter and how many smiles a furry creature can bring to a family? This pampered pooch is spoiled beyond belief but is the sweetest thing. There is not a mean bone in her little body. She does not even growl if you reach down while she is eating.

She has her assortment of toys and will drag them out at every opportunity for you to play with her. This next pic is a favorite game she plays with Michael. He points at her toy and she growls and growls like she is going to eat him up. She will even taunt him with the ball by nudging his finger with it.

I have been home sick a few days and she had laid around with me. She wants to play some and I try to oblige but have little strength to play for hours. She will curl up with me and just snooze away. I cannot imagine what we would do without this little "demonista". Today I was looking at a magazine that came in the mail and she barrelled through it to get my attention. 12 pounds of demanding attitude.

She is half yorkie & half rat terrier. She has spurned a whole bunch of friends to get one just like her. I have placed Bailey, Patrick & Little Mikey with friends and co workers. I have requests for more!!

I think Michael and I have passed the test and I think Maya plans on keeping us.

WooHoo - them there are fightin' words!

Finally, Clinton has raised his voice!! Finally, he is not being quiet and letting this right wing whacko machine roll over him anymore. Did you catch the Chris Wallace interview on FOX where Wallace tries to ambush Clinton with that sad, old & tired lie that Clinton had an opportunity to take out Bin Laden but did not?

I saw it and whooped for joy when Clinton got his ire up. I said "it is about damn time". I was so thrilled, I donated another $50 to the Democrats today.

Clinton Fights Back and I say, it is long overdue. Go read the entire transcript and give a high five to Bill. I think there is a slow thaw in the minds of the American people. I think there is an awakening to the fact that they have been lied to and they took it and ran with it. I think there is anger amongst good Americans and I think it will show in the upcoming elections and in the future. We are sick of these liars and their efforts to line their pockets. They try to hold us hostage with this fake War on Terror. The elevated threat level is nothing more than a mind mess to keep you scared and willing to let them do anything to you. Stand up for what is right. That is what America means.

YIKES, where did the week go?

I swear it was just last week yesterday wasn't it? The week flew by and I have not caught up yet.

I have managed to snag the common cold again and I am totally convinced it came from sitting in an airplane, yet again. How do you avoid it? I guess you could look like a freak with a mask on and make everyone nervous that you have some huge communicable disease. It makes me so darn mad. I flew to White Plains, NY on Thursday, rented a car and drove to Stamford, CT through Old Greenwich. WOW - what a beautiful place! All of it - gorgeous. I was just struck by how pretty it was there. I flew back home on Friday and we sat on the runway in White Plains for 45 minutes because Chicago was not letting anyone come their way because of the weather. My flight out of Chicago was delayed 2 1/2 hours and I arrived an hour late for my radio show. I finished the last bit and had to stay to cover for Flap's show. She does an alternative country show and I had fun with that.

I woke up yesterday with that "I am getting a cold feeling" and was so pissed. I took meds all day in an effort to ward it off, no luck. My mom turned 75 yesterday and we had a small party for her here. Virginia and her mom, Betty, came over, my sister in law and niece and us. Jen had to work and came by beforehand. We had BBQ from Whole Hog (yum) and Mirian made mom's favorite coconut cake. It was nice but I was feeling pretty cruddy. When it was all over I crashed and slept forever. Today I am scrunging and whining around.

My ex and his wife came over to see mom today and bring her a birthday gift. They brought Bailey, Maya's sister from the litter behind Maya. The two of them are so much alike it is too funny. We snapped a few pics of them but they are both so wiggly and keyed up that you cannot get them to sit still together. Maya is on the left and Bailey is on the right. Their mannerisms and bad ass behavior is the same. Must be the breed (yorkie and rat terrier = mutt). Bailey looks just like Maya did and I think Bailey will get more brown around her face like Maya has now. Ignore my double chin from leaning back - what a beaut I am today, no makeup, wild hair and scrungy clothes.

As I lay wallowing in self pity in my bed today with kleenexes all around - I just kept asking myself "why me, why another cold?" whaaa whaaa whaaa. I guess I just need to get over it, put on my big girl panties and move on. BUT geeezzz I did not even get a two week break. At least I do not have to get on another plane until October 23. I see you can order some No Cooties for use on those flights. Wonder if TSA will let that on?

Speaking of TSA, I sent them a flaming e mail yesterday. I was so mad, they opened some cosmetic stuff inside my suitcase and did not seal the bag back up - stuff everywhere!! I will surely make the no fly list because I was pretty hot and said some pretty nasty things to them. Oh well, enough is enough, don't ya think?

Bad Hair Days vs. Bad Hair Years

I confess, I have bad hair years. There are days in that year where my hair just looks outstanding and then the rest of the time - wild hair.

I have very thick, curly hair. Except that it is not perfect curls. There are tons of tight ringlets, interspersed with loose curls and a few straight hairs. Some days, the curls just do wonderous things - most days they just do their own thing. I do not blow dry them so that they can dry "naturally" but then going to the car or into work the wind hits them and frizzola. I threaten to cut it all off but remember that one bad cut that left me looking like I was going butch. I can straighten my hair and it looks fine for a few hours but, hey, I am in the south - HUMIDITY.

I used to dry my hair, curl it with electric curlers, etc... and it looked good for the 1980s but this is not the 80s. I did notice that leggings were coming back, maybe I can revive the hair, as well.

I kind of like Joy Behar's hair , sort of. I like the cut but would like it a little longer. I think I could wear my hair curly or blow dry it and wear it sort of like this --->
Michael said he did not like it. Oh well, what's a gal to do. Live with bad hair, I reckon.

Today I am deep conditioning and will wash it and wear it. Another day in the year of bad hair days.

George's Majestic & Michael Burks

I was in Fayetteville, AR last night and today for the 6th annual Hispanic Women's Organization of Arkansas Conference. I was a panelist this morning and we had an info booth at the event.

Two of my coworkers were with me, Virginia (my best friend) and Matilda. Matilda was forced to listen to war stories from Virginia and I, since we have worked together for 25 years.

We were driving down Dixon Street to see if anything hit our fancy for dinner, etc. and I spotted a sign at George's Majestic Lounge, Arkansas' oldest bar (1927). The sign said FHH Michael Burks. Michael Burks is an awesome blues guitarist and Alligator records number one seller.

I was not sure what FHH was but decided that Michael had to be playing there Friday night since he was home in Little Rock the night before and I missed his show because I came in late from Memphis. I had Virginia park the car and I ran into George's to see if Michael was indeed playing. He was and he was on from 6:00pm until 8:30pm. I spoke to him briefly and told him we would be back to catch the show. I was pleasantly surprised to see my buddy EdMo was his bass player. Ed replaced John Davies, who came off the road and joined Big John Miller's band.

We decided to grab a bite to eat at a Thai Restaurant right up the street (since we had a great parking spot at George's) and come back for the show. It hit me then that FHH meant Friday Happy Hour...duh!!

We came back and the place was packed!! We paid our cover and stopped at the front bar to get a beer and a shot of tequila. We did our shot and made our way to the back. Standing room only. We stood with a whole bunch of other folks and listened to some fine music. The crowd was stoked and the dance floor was packed. We noticed that the room was full of an older crowd, allright!!! George's Geriatric Majestic Lounge. We decided that the 6 - 8:30 appealed to everyone because they could get their groove on and still be home and in bed by 10!! PLUS, they could clear off Dickson before the UofA students hit it later in the evening. I spied a man sitting at a table with 3 empty seats. Hmm, Matilda, Virginia and I - that makes 3. I turned to Virginia and Matilda and told them to give me 5 minutes and I would have us a seat. Within 5 minutes the guy waved us over to sit with him; a nice retired educator named Joe. He very graciously shared his table with us and we got to take a load off. To thank him, we bought his next drink and we did one more shot. (Patron, thank you). We had a blast watching everyone dancing and enjoying themselves and the show was HOT! We had nicknames for some folks I confess; comb-over, brown skirt, and others we probably should not repeat. It was a funky and interesting crowd. There was an older gentleman who had a long beard and long hair. He was down front in one area and he was barefoot, except that he had duct tape across his instep and some sort of powder on the floor. He had a circle shuffle dance he did for 2 1/2 hours in his area. Joe told us it was "Mr. Odom" and that he always came with duct tape and powder. He powders the floor and puts the tape on his feet and dances all night. Cool.

Afterwards, the place cleared out pronto and I took Virginia and Matilda to meet Michael, etc. We discussed the upcoming Biscuit (yes, I know the name has changed but when you have been going as long as we have, you just refuse to call it anything else!) and the cook out/party that will go on all weekend. Michael says he has purchased some new smokers and plans on cooking all weekend. We arrive on Thursday and leave on Sunday. Everyone is starting to get excited about it. Our buddy Bill will come in from Texas, bringing bad, bad Chad with him this year. Craig & Trish has their reservations, Brian will be camping out with us, I am sure Matt will be there and, of course, the various in and out day folks we see over the weekend. Mel & Todd may even come, they talked about it awhile back. Woo hoo!! My favorite guilty pleasure at the Biscuit is Chuck's BBQ bologna. MMMMmmm good! Dripping with that wonderful sauce, a BBQ bologna sandwich is a must and the only time of the year I ever have one. Chuck's is out of Memphis, by the way.

Michael and band were headed on to another gig but it was great to catch them, especially since I missed them the night before. I text'd JD & Brian that I was doing shots @ George's, listening to Michael Burks and got replies back. They had both called me the night before to go to see Michael at Sticky Fingerz but I was too late getting back into town and too tired.

We had a blast and even made it the the conference this morning. The conference was really neat and we met lots of interesting folks. We left around 2 to head back home. We made one stop, Hog Haus, to get a couple of growlers of some of their micro brew. I thought we got Fat Boy Blue but when I got home, I realized they gave me Woodstock Wheat. Dang it, dang it, dang it. I even got Paul a growler because he loves Fat Boy Blue so I will have to disappoint him now and give him Woodstock Wheat. Grrr.

Oh well, I will give Woodstock Wheat a try - it may be really good, too!

Remembering

Today marks 5 years since the tragedies of 9/11. I remember exactly where I was, in a hotel room in Memphis, TN preparing to go to the office to do fiscal year planning with my Supervisor. I spent a weird few days in Memphis, we did actually get our planning work done, but our minds were all distracted. I remember sitting in the hotel lobby watching the aftermath on the big screen tv with other hotel guests. There was an odd feeling that no one wanted to be alone in their hotel rooms watching this. So, there sat a group of strangers numbering around 20, watching and crying.

No one can forget the horrible images of those days. Tonight I watched the CBS documentary about the firefighters. It was painful, chilling and sad. I refused to watch the docu-drama on ABC, shunning its exploitation of such a horrendous event in the lives of so many people, for the objective of furthering the blame on the previous administration. Supposedly, they cleaned it up a bit before showing it and added some disclaimers BUT I still refused to participate in the lie. I will not get on my soapbox about this for today needs to be a day of rememberance without politics.

To all the innocent people who were victims of a brutal and despicable act of war against this country at the World Trade Centers, the Pentagon and on Flight 93, to all the first responders who safely evacuated 27,000 people from the WTCs before they fell, to all the first responders who lost their lives while doing their jobs, to all who had the unbelievably tough task of going back to find surviors or bodies, to all who helped in anyway. I remember.

Holy Moly!!

The Pope's new hat.

It is called a saturno because it is vaguely reminiscent of the planet Saturn??
Naaaah, that is not what is coming to mind for me. I am definitely not thinking of Saturn when I see this picture.

The hat is very familiar to me though, I have seen it somewhere else.... where have I seen that hat?

Colds, Sinuses and Methheads

Thanks to the meth heads of the world, us regular folk have to go through hell and high water to get the good medicine anymore. Yep, us non meth head folk who have the sinus pressure and the general malady of the common cold are forced to stand in line, while sick no less, to sign for some effective medicine.

I have the common cold/allergy thing going on. I was training with a person in North Dakota last week who had the killer cold. I think I caught it and added on the whole allergy thing on top of it. I take shots, take Zyrtec and Allegra and still have allergy symptons. Just a fact. Over the years I succesffuly used Tylenol Sinus (for that horrible sinus head thing) or Sudafed Cold medicine when I had the runny nose or stuffed nose thing going on.

Well thanks to the meth heads, we have to go take a card with the picture of our good medicine on it and take it to the pharmacy. We stand in line sniffling, coughing and sneezing (much to the chagrin of our co line standers) and wait our turn at the register. Once we get there we hand over the card (like we are checking out a book at the library) and they go retrieve it. They then scan it and get your driver's license putting all your info in the computer so it can log how much of the good medicine you are purchasing. You feel like a criminal. You wonder how much you can buy before they come hunting you down to see if your are cooking in the house. You pay for your medicine and finally leave. You are so thankful to finally get something that works, you open it in the car on the way home and take a dose then and there.

I miss being able to get my medicine when I needed it. Now, it is never in stock. I like the Sudafed shown above but it was all sold out!! Those damn meth heads. I had to settle for the Aleve Cold & Sinus, after I demanded something with psuedoephedrine in it. I am sure that got a check mark by my name in the computer. I got that and some Walgreen's Rest Easy (which I think is generic Nyquil)...ahhh sweet elixir of the cold damned.

Two days later and I feel better. Still a bit on the puny side but better. Thanks to my willingness to take the heat and buy the good stuff. Besides, anyone could look at me and see I am not a meth user. These extra pounds, all my teeth and no pock marks attest to that fact. You have probably seen those "Faces of Meth" sites... pretty scary stuff. I have seen how this drug affects people I know. You have to wonder what even makes them take that first hit? Who would ever think it would be a good idea to smoke chemicals? Bizzaro. I will stay pleasantly plump, thank you.
